Currently channel maintenance is undertaken in the region largely on a manual basis and where opportunity exists mechanisation is used. This has led to the channels in the region often being clogged with weeds causing inhibition of water flow for irrigation purposes. The water flow being inhibited creates a situation of water wastage which is costly when water is being purchased and inconsistent with both State and Federal Government policy of water conservation.
